 A place for everything...
First, you want to have a vision of how you want your work and living spaces to look and function. To achieve that goal you need to be able to change your behavior. To maintain the system you put in place. Outside In Organizer and Makeovers suggests:
- Limit replacing consumable items until your supply is nearly depleted.
- At the end of every return everything to it’s designated place.
- Observe items you don’t use for 3-6 months. If after 6 months you haven’t needed them take action – donate, recycle, discard.
The reasons why some people aren’t able to stay organized may be because (1) they didn’t adhere to the “rules” of their system, (2) there wasn’t an internal or external reward for maintaining the system, or (3) they didn’t change the contributing behavior (for instance, procrastination, unnecessary shopping, or attachment to objects).
